Help us create a tribute to honour his legacy

Casper, our beloved white lion, captured the hearts of everyone at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary and beyond. With his commanding presence and gentle nature, he became a symbol of hope, conservation, and the importance of wildlife rescue.

Sadly, after a decline in health, Casper was put to sleep at age 18 under veterinary guidance on Thursday, May 8, 2025. Born on 24 August 2006 at West Midlands Safari Park, he arrived at the Sanctuary (then Isle of Wight Zoo) on 8 January 2010 and later bonded closely with his half-sister, Frosty.

Casper stood out with his luminous white coat and powerful, far-reaching roar, instantly recognisable across the Isle of Wight. His gentle spirit and trust in his carers left a lasting impression on all who met him. One of the last male white lions in the UK, Casper played a vital role as an ambassador for conservation, helping educate visitors on responsible breeding and protecting majestic species for future generations.

Our Vision: A Lasting Memorial

As we celebrate Casper’s birthday we invite you to join us in creating a heartfelt memorial to honour Casper’s legacy.

Every contribution will help to ensure that Casper’s story continues to inspire generations—raising awareness of big cat conservation, animal welfare, and the vital role sanctuaries play in giving rescued animals loving homes.

All funds raised will go solely to creating a memorial at the Sanctuary to ensure that the memory of Casper lives on for all to appreciate.

For the Isle of Wight community and beyond, Casper was more than just a lion – he was a symbol of strength, resilience, and grace. This memorial will ensure that his legacy at Wildheart will endure, reminding us all of the beauty and importance of wildlife preservation.
