Brothers Benji and Balu have lived a life of misery in a tiny cage on the side of a restaurant in Azerbaijan. Bored, hungry and suffering from serious injuries, these bears were kept there as nothing more than a novelty to attract customers.

They have a chance for a better life here at the Sanctuary. However, we need to raise £150,000
to build a 3,500 metre habitat for Benji and Balu before we can bring them here to their forever home!

Benji and Balu are waiting to be rescued.

Benji and Balu, former ‘restaurant bears’, are currently languishing in a tiny metal cage in Azerbaijan with no area to hibernate, no water for bathing, no soil under their feet and no chance at a normal life. They have spent the majority of their life illegally imprisoned in a cage on the side of a restaurant, living off scraps of food or whatever the customers threw their way, with no respite from the stream of gawping tourists. They were malnourished, starving, and underweight, with severe damage to their teeth from stress-induced bar-biting, in an attempt to cope with their everyday nightmare.

Benji and Balu deserve to have a better life. Their beautiful new forever home here at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary awaits, but we need your help to make this happen!

Target £150,000

So far we have raised an incredible...

£44,465.00

What we need?

We need to raise £150,000 to build a new habitat for Benji & Balu.

Our vision is to create a habitat for Benji and Balu that will stimulate and encourage all of their natural behaviours, allow them to rehabilitate from their previous traumas, and give them the opportunity to become bears again. With platforms and a boulder mountain to encourage physical exercise and provide a sense of security, ponds and a stream to enable them to enjoy the water for both mental and physical enrichment, bear caves so they can hibernate and a bear house for them to find safety, this habitat will provide Benji and Balu with everything they need!
