To kick off the summer holidays why not come down and join us as we revel and reminisce in the Roaring 40’s! Enjoy a nostalgic day of memorabilia, clothing, music and food that will take you back to wartime heydays!
Working in conjunction with Vectis 40’s Vintage, we will have a selection of fantastic live music of the era (see line-up below), a home guard demonstration, military vehicles, an authentic air raid shelter experience set up in our underground caponier, artefacts, and memorabilia, all while Tommy’s patrol the Sanctuary keeping visitors and our animals safe from harm!
Our café will be serving a special war time menu with our Chef cooking up a storm in the kitchen with delicious traditional British puddings on sale too.
The Wildheart Sanctuary itself is located within Sandown’s iconic Palmerston fort which, when upgraded in 1864, became better known as the “Granite fort” going on to play a significant role in the World War II effort, evidence of which is still on site today!
This is a unique opportunity to experience a part of the British and Isle of Wight’s gallant war effort and, in celebration, we will be bringing our site to life as you have never seen it before!
It’s going to be an unmissable display celebrating a momentous achievement in our nations history and providing you with a remarkable occasion to enjoy visiting our Sanctuary while still being able to enjoy spending time with our beautiful animals
