The Wildheart Trust Statement On The Abuse Of Cats

Posted on February 09, 2022

“We at The Wildheart Trust are appalled to see a video on social media of a professional footballer kicking and chasing their Bengal cat at home.

This is an abhorrent way to treat a pet who should be considered a family member and demonstrates the disconnect we see time and again between humans and animals who both share a place in our world.

In our work, we regularly experience horror stories of big and small cats being directly abused or kept in inhuman conditions often for entertainment or profit. The Wildheart Animal Sanctuary provides a forever home to exotic cats who have been rescued from such conditions.

Cruelty towards cats also extends to unethical breeding practices. This is why we launched our #SERVIVAL campaign which seeks to ban the practice in the UK of breeding exotic wildcats with domestic cats, creating breeds including the Bengal, Savannah and other hybrid cats.”
