This summer we have again united and joined forces with Vectis 40’s Vintage in order to present and promote The Roaring Forties! A weekend packed full of celebration and remembrance of Britain during the Second World War.

The Wildheart Sanctuary itself is located within Sandown’s iconic Palmerston fort which, when upgraded in 1864, became better known as the “Granite fort” going on to play a significant role in the World War 2 effort, evidence of which is still on site today!

This is a unique opportunity to experience a part of the British and Isle of Wight’s gallant war effort and, in celebration, we will be bringing our site to life as you have never seen it before!

The Roaring Forties takes place on the weekend of 10th and 11th of September providing a remarkable occasion for you to enjoy visiting our sanctuary while still being able to enjoy spending time with our beautiful animals.

There will be live music of the era, a home guard demonstration, military vehicles, an authentic air raid shelter experience set up in our underground caponier, artefacts, memorabilia, stalls, face painting and history talks all while Tommy’s patrol the fort walls and perimeter keeping visitors and our animals safe from harm!

Our café will be serving a special war time menu with Chef Webb cooking up a storm in the kitchen with delicious traditional British cakes on sale too.

Between Vectis 40s Vintage and the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary we have a few tricks up our sleeves and there will be surprises to delight, dazzle and amaze over the weekend.

It’s going to be an unmissable display celebrating a momentous achievement in our nations history.

We have held our ticket prices and there’s free entry to members.

You can book online now to ensure you don’t miss out although we will still be accepting admissions on the day.

Come along and join us!

Together we ROAR!
