School & Group Visits to the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary
Like you, we have had to adapt to lots of changes including an unprecedented inability to host school bookings for two consecutive years. However, we have now restarted our school and group booking offer for this year (2022).
We are now able to offer you a qualified teacher for your morning or afternoon visit who will provide you with a Learning & Discovery Session. This includes a discussion about one of our animal’s stories, how they came to live with us at the sanctuary, threats to their species in the wild, and what we are doing to promote the species as part of our conservation work.
We can also be very flexible and design your group a specialised session if you have a specific curriculum link you would like to be covered. Please let us know in advance and we will ensure the focus of your session will include aspects of that subject at a level required for your group.
During your visit, if you book a Learning & Discovery Session you will have sole use of the Learning & Discovery Centre which you can utilise for lunch, bag drop, and any lesson you wish to provide yourselves to your students after their session.
We are starting to look into offering outreach sessions to groups and schools again soon, please contact us via the email below to register your interest for an outreach session and we will get back to you with what we can offer.
We continually monitor government guidelines to ensure we have all necessary controls in place to safeguard our visitors. Being a large open-air site means we are ideally placed to offer unique outdoor learning opportunities in a safe environment. If you would like to discuss bringing your class to the sanctuary, please do not hesitate to contact us. We already have rigorous measures in place to keep you safe and we are very happy to work within your school’s own protocols.
2022 Admission Charges for School/Uniformed School Groups
At the Wildheart Trust we are committed to providing high quality learning opportunities for every student, using our knowledge of the natural world to inspire and enhance their educational experience. We love welcoming you to the sanctuary to visit our amazing animals, and in the past, we have loved going out to schools across the Island to teach and inspire the young conservationists of the future.
Please note that you must book your visit in advance if you wish to take advantage of the educational group rates. We are only able to take one self-guided and one Learning & Discovery Session in the morning and afternoon per day so early booking is advised.

To make a booking, contact the sanctuary to check whether your chosen date is available and to discuss your requirements. You can do this by emailing the Education Department.
If you need to amend or cancel your booking after it has been confirmed, please contact the Learning & Discovery Department at the earliest opportunity.
During busy periods Learning & Discovery sessions become booked up very quickly, so please understand that if you cancel your booked slot, we may not be able to offer you an alternative.
We encourage teachers/group leaders to make an exploratory pre-visit to the sanctuary free of charge before bringing their pupils. This will help you to plan your day in detail and to carry out your risk assessment.
If you would like to take advantage of this offer please contact the Learning & Discovery Manager to make the necessary arrangements. If you are unable to visit in advance you are welcome to use our risk assessment as a model for your own. This document also includes our code of conduct.
If you would like a copy of our general site COVID-19 risk assessment, please get request it when you get in touch with us.
New Resources for Home Educators & Teachers 2022
We will soon be pleased to be able to offer home educators and parents/caregivers at home or teachers at school additional resources to use in learning sessions. These combined with our updated educators pack will provide some educational yet fun projects for a variety of ages, from KS1 to Post 16 Education.
Trained education staff at the Wildheart Animal Sanctuary have been enthusing young people for the natural world and giving expert insight into conservation issues for many years. We welcome educational and uniformed groups of all ages and abilities. Educational visits take place during normal sanctuary opening hours.
